Top-alluring Tourist Attractions
Wanuskewin Heritage Park
A non-profit cultural and historical center, Wanuskewin Heritage Park provides a better understanding of the Northern Plains First Nations people who originally inhabited the region. The word Wanuskewin is a Cree term which means ‘being at peace with oneself’ and believe us, it is no less than that. The park holds many different First Nations artifacts counting summer and winter campsites, bison kill sites, tipi rings, pottery fragments, egg shells and animal bones. Along with being a tourist destination, it also serves several different purposes like human resource development agency, scientific, cultural and educational authority and a gathering place for spiritual uses such as sweats and pipe ceremonies.
Remai Modern Museum
A public art museum, Remai Modern Museum is located at River Landing on the west bank of the South Saskatchewan River. It is the museum of modern and contemporary art and culture that houses the largest collection of Pablo Picasso's linocuts, around 406 pieces in its permanent collection. It has restored the collection of now-closed Mendel Art Gallery with over 7,500 artworks. Opened in October 2017, the museum is designed by Canadian architectural firm KPMB and Smith Carter Architects and Engineers.
Persephone Theatre
Persephone Theatre is a regional theatre company founded by sisters Janet Wright and Susan Wright in 1974 and named after the Greek goddess Persephone. Persephone’s seasons have grown to a six-play Main Stage series, a three-play second stage series (The Deep End) and six productions for youth (including a provincial tour). The Persephone School of Theatre also offers workshops and classes for children, youth, adult amateurs, and theatre professionals. After a successful capital campaign in 2007, Persephone Theatre shifted to its current facility, the Remai Arts Centre.
Best Time to Visit Saskatoon
To discover the city’s natural attractions at its best, visit the city from early July to mid-August. The city boasts long, comfortable, and partly cloudy summers and frigid, snowy, windy, and mostly cloudy winters. If you are looking for budget travel, travel in the early summer when temperatures are still warm and hotel rates are a lot cheaper. In Saskatoon, the weather can be unpredictable at any time of the year, so it's a good idea to check weather reports often to get the latest information.
