Jackson Square

The main square in the heart of the French Quarter, Jackson Square is the historical park and one of the great public spaces in America. It was formerly known as Place d’Armes, but later it was renamed in the honor of the hero of the battle of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson (he even served as the seventh president of the US). There is an equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson in the center of the square, whereas it is surrounded by St. Louis Cathedral, the Lower and Upper Pontalba Apartments, and the Presbytere and Cabildo (the state museums of Louisiana). Mardi Gras World (MGW) is the massive studio located along the Mississippi River.
